Hello Everyone!! I am so glad that we are finally back to what I consider a normal school year! It has been so very wonderful to have students back. It is so easy to tell that you are just as happy to be back in an active learning environment, and the work you are turning in is great!
Please check our Schoology page every day so that you can be kept up-to-date on assignments for both Reading and English.(for English II, Reading II) Please click on both the English and the Reading link on this page so that you can see what we are going to be working on for this semester and next semester. I don't have everything up yet; I am going to be working on it every day. If you have any ideas or project insights, please share!!! :)
Remember, don't stress out over this. We are ALL learning how to be back in the classroom after our whole COVID experience. If you get confused or frustrated with something....TELL ME. I can't help you if I don't know what the problem is. If it is a computer or a concept problem, we will figure it out. Even if we have to say late everyday to get it figured out, we will:)
I absolutely love having you guys back on campus! Email me right away if you have any questions or concerns (you can also send me a Remind, those go straight to my phone). I will be checking my email frequently: [email protected]
Now go click on the other links (ESPECIALLY THE ENGLISH 2 LINK) at the top of this page!!! :)
This is going to be great year!!!

English II and Reading II
English I
El Paso High School
I am Dawn Zumar and I will be teaching English 2, Reading 2, and English 1classes. I am also available to tutor any student who needs extra help in English or with STAAR strategies..
English 2 classes are designed to prepare you for your junior and senior classes and college, so all of your classwork and homework will be geared toward achieving that goal. Please make sure that your laptops are fully charged when you come to class as almost all of our classwork will be done on-line. The good thing about this is that you will be able to work at your own pace, but there are due dates. You are now young adults, and will be treated you that way; everyone is on the honor system. When we are working on class assignments, every student is expected to keep on task. There will be opportunities for down time if all assignments are completed, but there needs to be trust and respect in our classroom in order to enjoy specific privileges.
All of your assignments will be posted on Schoology.com. This is where you will go to make sure that you are up-to-date on all of your assignments, especially if you are absent.
In December, students will take the STAAR EOC English retest and in March there will be the STAAR EOC English II test. I promise to be very dedicated to helping you pass this very difficult test, but you must be willing to put in the hard work that it is going to take. This test is designed to prepare you for life after high school, and we all need to take that very seriously. I will make myself available for extra help before or after school if you need me to as well.
Some of you are double blocked for English II and Reading, but everyone needs to please reference the following pages for specific details that pertain to each section of class.
SEE YOU IN CLASS!!!
